Aizawl, 19 September, 2026: Dr. H. Lalrinhlui has become the first Mizo to hold a Ph.D. in Special Education. The daughter of H. Laltanpuia and F. Lalhmunliani from Bawngkawn South, Aizawl, the UGC-NET-JRF qualified scholar received her doctorate from the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Coimbatore.
Her groundbreaking thesis focused on the effectiveness of digital literacy training and how it impacts the employability skills and self-efficacy of visually impaired higher education students in Mizoram.
Driven by a deep empathy for persons with disabilities, Dr. Lalrinhlui chose this path to bridge the gap in educational accessibility. She noted that without the right opportunities and technological support, much of the immense talent and potential of disabled individuals remains hidden.
"I chose Special Education because I have witnessed the unique challenges and educational needs of persons with disabilities firsthand, and I wanted to use research to find real, tangible solutions," she told reporters. "For students with visual impairments, mastering digital literacy and technology is the ultimate key to their education, independence, and future employment."
She passionately added, "My greatest hope is that this research contributes to creating much better, highly effective training programs. I want to see them gain the confidence and skills they need to thrive as independent, productive members of our society."
