AIZAWL, JUNE 30
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma today said peace was essential for development whilst addressing the Remna Ni (Mizoram Peace Accord Day) commemoration at Aizawl Lammual. The event, organised by the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) General Headquarters, saw the Chief Minister accompanied by his wife, Pi Liansailovi, as the chief guest.
The ceremony began with the Chief Minister hoisting the Remna Ni Flag, followed by a rendition of "Ro Min Reksak Ang Che" performed by the 1st Battalion MAP Brass Band.
In his address, Pu Lalduhoma extended greetings to Zo people worldwide and praised the MZP President for organising the celebration at the historic venue. "Peace is the foundation of development, stability, and progress, whilst unrest remains a major obstacle to all," he stated. "My government shall leave no stone unturned to preserve and promote peace in our state."
Development Plans
The Chief Minister said Mizoram was ready for major development, particularly through better connections between the southern and northern regions. He said such development would be accompanied by stronger links with communities outside the state.
"We have to prepare for better communication and deeper harmony amongst people of diverse communities and faiths," he said, calling for collective commitment to peaceful coexistence regardless of differences.
Nationalism and Unity
Speaking about Mizo nationalism, the Chief Minister said it was not based on hostility but on unity and progress for everyone. "True nationalism helps others and brings people together," he said.
He stressed the importance of maintaining cooperative relations with the Central Government, irrespective of the ruling party, for Mizoram's welfare. "Politics must be guided by mutual respect. Let us uphold dignity in public discourse and refrain from divisive or inflammatory rhetoric," he urged.
Refugee Concerns
The Chief Minister referenced recent statements by the Home Minister revealing that nearly fifty per cent of crimes in Mizoram were committed by refugees. "It is regrettable that the actions of a few miscreants tarnish the image of many law-abiding individuals. I appeal to all our refugee friends to respect the laws of our land," he said.
Call for Harmony
Concluding his address, the Chief Minister made a heartfelt appeal: "Let peace and harmony prevail in our society and in our neighbourhoods. Let us rekindle the spirit of communal harmony handed down to us by our ancestors. Let our streets once again become places of peace."
Event Details
The programme was chaired by Dr C. Lalremruata, Vice President of MZP. Rev. Dr Lalhmangaiha, General Secretary of the Council of Churches of Mizoram (CCM), led the opening prayers, whilst Pu Chinkhanmanga Thomte, General Secretary of MZP, presented the event report.
MZP President Pu H. Lalthianghlima emphasised that Remna Ni belongs to the people and serves to unite citizens across political, social, and generational divides. He noted that the occasion honours unsung heroes rather than glorifying the past.
