Aizawl, August 7, 2025:

In a significant step toward positioning Mizoram as a major tourism destination, the Department of Tourism, Government of Mizoram, and the Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Railways, officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today in Aizawl.

The two-year agreement was formalized between Ms. Lalthakimi Pachuau, Joint Director of the Tourism Department, and Mr. RN Ranmung, Chief Regional Manager of IRCTC, Guwahati. The MoU aims to create a structured and collaborative framework to enhance Mizoram’s tourism offerings and infrastructure.

Key areas of collaboration include joint promotional campaigns, simplified and tourist-friendly travel logistics, curated and customizable travel itineraries tailored to diverse visitor preferences, and concrete strategies to increase overall tourist footfall to the state.

This partnership is being widely hailed as a milestone development for Mizoram’s tourism sector. By combining the reach and expertise of IRCTC with Mizoram’s unique cultural and natural assets, the agreement is expected to broaden the state’s visibility on the national and global tourism map.

The timing of the collaboration is particularly strategic, with the railway line expected to connect Aizawl by September 2025. In anticipation, IRCTC has announced plans to launch a Special Tourist Train to Mizoram in October, capitalizing on the enhanced connectivity and making the state more accessible than ever before.

In addition to inbound tourism efforts, IRCTC will also introduce affordable outbound tour packages for the people of Mizoram, creating new travel opportunities and experiences for residents of the state.

With this MoU, both parties are set to unlock the vast tourism potential of Mizoram, while fostering sustainable travel practices, local economic growth, and deeper cultural exchange.
