New Delhi, 4th January 2024: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma met and reunited with his long-time friend, India's External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar, at his New Delhi office on Wednesday. The discussions encompassed issues related to the Myanmar refugee situation and concerns along the Indo-Myanmar border.
During their discussions, Chief Minister Lalduhoma highlighted issues related to Myanmar refugees in Mizoram and the ongoing civil war in Myanmar. He reiterated the historical context of the Indo-Myanmar border, emphasizing that it is a British colonial legacy formed without consulting the native people, including the Mizo community. Lalduhoma expressed concern that fencing the border would imply official acceptance of the British arrangement, which the Mizo people find unacceptable, given their involuntary division between the two countries for decades. He also reiterated the Mizo people's aspiration for the administrative reunion of all Mizo and kindred tribes in the region.
Dr. S. Jaishankar congratulated Chief Minister Lalduhoma on his electoral success and extended his wishes for success in the new government formed by him and his party. He attentively listened to the concerns raised by the Chief Minister. In response, Chief Minister Lalduhoma extended an invitation to Dr. S. Jaishankar and his wife to visit Mizoram.
