Assam Man Murdered In Mizoram Over Alleged Personal Enmity

On Tuesday, February 1 2022, some residents of Dholai in Assam were blocking the Silchar-Aizawl Highway following the death of a Truck Driver in Mizoram.

Reportedly, a truck driver from Assam was allegedly stabbed to death by a handyman, who was also from Assam.

The decease has been identified as Praveen Kumar Sinha, who is a resident of Ramprasadpur in Cachar district. Praveen was said to have left for Mizoram two days ago with Nipen Singh as a handyman.

The body of Praveen Kumar was handed over to his family on Sunday. The body sustained multiple injuries and locals from the area alleged that it was a "Cold-Blooded murder" by Mizo miscreants, a claim not supported by police reports.

According to Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur ( read report here by eastmojo) who was also present at the site of the protest, the case is related to personal enmity where there was hostility between the two, which eventually led to the murder of Praveen Kumar Sinha, the driver. The accused Handyman has reportedly confessed to Mizoram Police.

The protesters were however stuck on a different story, alleging that Praveen was murdered by Mizo miscreant and demanded the release of co-driver/handyman Nipen Singh who according to them is illegally detained by Mizoram Police. When a media team asked if Assam Police would take custody of the accused, the senior officer said once the judicial custody ends, they would follow the due procedure. “We are registering a case” she added.

As per the latest information, the locals have withdrawn the protest and vacated the demonstration site.
